The Coca Cola Company has announced that it has discontinued its energy drink in the United States which was launched last year with lots of promotion. Right now Coca Cola Energy will remain available around the rest of the world although it looks like it didn’t catch on in the United States.
The company has been trying to reduce the number of brands as it tries to streamline its operations around core brands with less successful ones such as Tab and Coca Cola Energy not making the cut. The Coca Cola Company still owns a majority stake in Monster Beverage one of the top energy brands in the United States so they are far from retreating from the energy drink market.
Coca Cola is still introducing new brands such as AHA and Coca Cola with Coffee so maybe it makes more sense pushing these brands instead of concentrating on a product that never really hit its stride.
I have tried Coca Cola Energy and it was fine but in my opinion it was kind of expensive, products from companies such as Monster or Rockstar etc provided much better value. The energy drinks market is very competitive and the range of brands as well as varieties of each brand are numerous so it makes sense for Coca Cola to focus elsewhere.
