January 6th 2023: AEW announced that they will have a new updated look on both of its shows Dynamite and Rampage for 2023 but the teased new look and its New Years Smash episode didn’t help the ratings for the shows
Dynamite which is AEW’s main show slipped again in the ratings with a total viewership of 864,000 which is down 14 percent compared to one year ago. Dynamite got a new set design as well as intro video and on screen visuals as well as other changes.
AEW has a renewal deal with the new owners of Warner Bros coming up so a ratings boost would have been good for AEW not a decline. Most cable networks are dealing with a declining audience as less people are paying for cable and instead are switching to streaming. AEW has done well since it started but hasn’t been able to expand on its core viewership and add more general wrestling viewers.
AEW has added a lot of former WWE wrestlers but apart from Chris Jericho they have been greeted well by AEW’s core audience but don’t seem to have expanded that. AEW has also go several of its own wrestlers over with fans such as MJF, Dr Britt Baker DND and Darby Allen but it needs to expand on that because so they have other big names to fight which creates more drama.
