February 1st 2023: Amazon has followed Apple in increasing the monthly cost of its Music Unlimited plan. Starting February 21st the monthly subscription price will increase from $9.99 to a new price of $10.99 a month. The discounted student rate will also increase from $4.99 to $5.99 a month.
Apple Music had made the same price increase in October and at the moment Spotify is still at $9.99 a month which has been the price since Spotify entered the United States in 2011. Amazon Music Unlimited still has a discounted price for Amazon Prime subscribers of $8.99. Amazon also has a free tier called Amazon Music Prime for Amazon Prime members which offers ad free listening not lossless quality and only has shuffled playback. There is also a free ad supported service for non Prime subscribers.
The cost of music subscriptions is slowly increasing like the cost of television streaming services the question with price increases is at what point a subscriber will drop a service because of the increased cost.
